19th century
Description

A beautifully crafted Victorian oak bureau cabinet by Simpson & Sons of Halifax Circa 1890. The stepped upper cabinet opens to reveal a wonderful fitted interior of pigeon holes and two stationery drawers, flanked on each side with hinged letter racks with inset shelves. The central writing slope measures 66cm x 46cm. The carved detail to its front is a particular feature of the cabinet. Having a gadrooned border to the fall front with inset carved scallop shell with scrolling floral detail. Flanked either side by rosette roundels in panels and reeded detail. The original brass handles with pierced attractive back plates. The serpentine sides have matching reeded detail and the whole is raised on a moulded plinth base.
