A Fine quality Secretaire bookcase in an amazing original condition.

We are delighted to bring to you one of the finest examples of a rare Victorian (circa 1870) Mahogany Secretaire bookcase cupboard. This simple yet elegant bookcase Secretaire is in an outstanding condition featuring its original beautiful original lightly faded french polished finish and mahogany colour.

From the top down the bookcase has a rounded frontage with a moulded cornice. The bookcase has 4 infinitely adjustable mahogany lipped shelves with rounded and polished fronts which goes behind the 2 large doors complete with their original hand floated glass.

The Secretaire cupboard has its original 2 finely turned knobs to open the fitted desk drawer. Opening the Secretaire drawer reveals a recently re-covered full grain green leather writing surface. The 6 internal drawers feature Birds-eye Maple veneer and are complete with 2 turned knobs per drawer and 6 pigeon holes with matching veneered fretwork pediments. The Secretaire drawer opens smoothly, latches effortlessly and securely on the 2 button latches either side and has no movement, wear or play. The writing surface is flat when opened and does not flex when used normally.

Underneath the Secretaire drawer are 2 canted top corner and moulded Mahogany lockable doors which matches the top and opens to reveal a large cupboard with removable shelf. All of the locks on this item are solid brass and original to the piece, they operate smoothly and the item is complete with its 2 original keys (1 solely operates the secretaire part).

We have restored, carefully cleaned and waxed this Secretaire bookcase, maintaining its original patina whilst giving a lovely natural sheen and the item is ready for its new home.

Please note; This item is in fantastic condition for its age as shown by the photographs below. Being an antique item of this age there are obviously marks, scratches and dents, however, we feel that these points are which adds to its charm and character to a piece.

Also note; this item is tall so please check the sizes to make sure it can be placed in the desired location, the item separates into 2 pieces for transport.
