French Empire Couch C.1830

19th century
Description

Fine early 19th.c. French Empire couch c.1830. Mahogany frame and striking upholstery in lemon yellow with Empire style motifs to the backrest and seats. Straight cresting rail with a little roll at the top and continued on the stiles, shaped arms with large reeded and scrolling terminals on palmate supports. Note the carved papyrus leaf detail where the arms meet the stiles. Webbed seat with a loose deep sprung cushion over a mahogany veneered apron raised on shaped front legs also carved with papyrus leaf detail. Some minor wear to the covers, otherwise very good condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
