Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bell top bracket clock is a spring-driven portable timepiece originating in the late 17th and 18th centuries, distinguished by its bell-shaped wooden top mouldings and brass carrying handle.

These clocks were typically constructed with ebonised fruitwood or mahogany cases, housing brass movements, cast brass spandrels, brass carrying handles, and silvered brass dial rings.

Authentic period examples feature hand-engraved backplates, crown or anchor escapements, cast brass spandrels surrounding the dial, and maker signatures engraved onto the dial or backplate.

Place the clock centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, atop a dark wood sideboard, or within a formal library bookcase to serve as a focal point.

Keep the clock away from direct sunlight and heat sources, wind the mechanism regularly using the correct key, and gently dust the case with a dry microfibre cloth without using solvent polishes.
