Art Deco Gents 10k Gf Watch by Bulova, Usa, C1938

1920 - 1940
Description

For your consideration is this fully serviced Art Deco gentleman's manual wrist watch dating to 1938.

This watch is powered by a good-quality American-made BULOVA 21-jewel 7AP hand-wound mechanical movement. Online records show the 7AP was manufactured from 1936 to 1944 and features a Breguet hairspring, as used on other high-end watches such as Rolex and noted for aiding more consistent timekeeping throughout the duration of the wind. This particular 21-jewel movement would have been one of Bulova’s top-of-the-range power plants of the era and is stamped with the moon date-code symbol for 1938. This also matches the date of the watch case itself.

The long, curved two-piece 10k yellow gold-filled case includes Art Deco filigree on either sides of the dial, extending to the tips of the lugs. It presents very nicely for its 84 years, showing the usual light surface use, but no obvious wear to the plating. The back is very clean, and it snaps on securely to the top. The outside is signed B-10K GOLD FILLED, plus its serial number starting with ‘8’. This indicates, on a Bulova of this era and with this particular movement, a manufacture date of 1938. The inside is signed BULOVA FIFTH AVE NEW YORK.

The movement has been completely disassembled and all components ultrasonically cleaned and inspected for damage and excessive wear. Freshly lubricated with the finest Swiss watch oils and grease, the beat and setting friction adjusted, and the timekeeping regulated.

Width: 20mm, excluding the crown.

Length: 35mm without the lugs; 45mm total length to tips of the lugs.

Thickness: 8mm, including crystal.

Face/dial: 14.5mm x 26mm.

Distance between lugs: 14mm.

Strap: XL Extra-long but narrow – 14mm wide at the lugs, tapering to 12mm at the buckle.

Wrist fitting: The watch should fit a wrist size of between 165mm and 195mm.

This watch is perfect both for everyday wear and for adding to the collections. A lovely watch any gentleman would love to wear. Shows no wear-through to the gold. All of our watches are sent out in a presentation box. Images taken outside in natural daylight.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
