A Rare Late 19th Century Austrian Cold-painted Bronze Model of a Hippopotamus (16cm Long)

Description

A good and particularly rare Austrian cold-painted bronze model of a Hippopotamus (Hippopotamus Amphibius). It stands on all four feet with head raised and mouth open. Its skin is etched so as to give a good impression of its robustness. Its open mouth retains good bright coloured paintwork specifically its teeth, tongue and palate.

It retains some of its original paint (mouth, as above) and overall is of good green verdigris colour consistent with its age. It stands level on its feet with no rocking. This is a mid-sized example of good weight and measures in at 16cm in length.
