A very handsome Georgian silver soup ladle in the Old English Thread pattern, double struck so the pattern is repeated on the reverse. A family crest is engraved to the front of the handle of a rampant lion stood atop a turret and set below a coronet. A monogram is ornately engraved to the reverse. Hallmarked for London 1778, maker George Smith III.
It measures 34.3cm (13 1/2'') long and the bowl is 9cm (3 1/2'') wide and 3.5cm (1 5/8'') deep. It weighs 200g / 6.4ozt.
In excellent condition, no dents and minimal handling wear, all the marks and engravings are crisp as is the decoration.
