Description

Woven in soumak technique on the face, this handsome salt-bag - 'namakdan' in Persian - the central field contains four '8-pointed stars' and one star in the neck - symbols of protection. I love the natural colours in this bag, particularly the use of yellow on the back and the powerful, beautifully-drawn, '8-pointed star'.

Made by Afshar nomads in Kerman Province, south Persia during the last quarter of the nineteenth century, this is a very good, early, collectable salt-bag.
