A fune Japanese Meiji period Satsuma pottery kogo (incense box) of circular form standing on three feet, the cover finely hand painted with birds in flight under a hanging branch of Maple leaves with diaper border decoration around the edge of the cover and around the sides. This splendid Japanese kogo is further decorated inside the box & cover with different flowering branches, it is signed Meizan on the underside with the Shimazu clan mon and apart from minor expected rubbing to the gilt it is in excellent condition measuring 3 ½ inches in diameter.
