The Fancy Fox has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
Plain polished sides and egg and dart border around the edge of the base. Hallmarked for London 1898, makers William Gibson & John Lawrence Langman (Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co.), full marks to one wall and partial marks to both covers.

It measures 8.7cm (3 7/16") by 6.5cm (2 1/2") wide and 3.7cm (1 1/2") high (covers closed) and weighs 238g (weighted).
In very good condition with just a few minor dings to the walls. No repairs and the hinges are good. Some stress lines to the glass on the double "window". The hallmarks are quite rubbed on the side wall and a little at the edges on the covers but all legible. It no longer has the original leather cover under the base.
