Francis E. Jamieson (b.1895 - d.1950): Framed oil on canvas depicting a beautiful Scottish Mountain River scene near Aberfeldy.

The River Lyon runs passed Aberfeldy with mountains including Ben Lawers in the background. To the right river bank is a field drenched in warm sunlight that has recently been harvested with stooks stacked in the field awaiting collection. Beyond this field is the village of Aberfeldy with its church spire and houses visible above the hedge-line.

Dimensions including frame: 24.5 inches x 17.5 inches (62 x 45cm)

Signed (using one of the artists well known pseudonyms "W. Richards") to the lower left corner. The title "Aberfeldy" written in handwriting verso.

Framed in a good gilt wooden frame

THE ARTIST - Francis E. Jamieson: was an English painter who, after a holiday to the Highlands of Scotland became obsessed with painting highland landscapes, becoming one of the most prolific artists of his time. So fashionable in fact that he was contracted to paint exclusively for various employers. As a consequence, Jamieson painted under several pseudonyms to enable him to sell more paintings without his employers finding out. His aliases include J. McGregor, Graham Williams, Henry Stewart and (as in this case) W. Richards. There were others too. He started using watercolours, but soon progressed to oils. His style is very Victorian, but he is best known for his multicoloured skies, bursting with light and power over gentle bodies of water.
