Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century oak trestle bench, historically referred to as a form, is a long wooden seating item supported by end trestles or splayed legs. Popular in refectories, hall spaces, and country homes, these benches were crafted to accommodate multiple sitters efficiently.

These benches were traditionally built using solid oak timber and joined with mortise and tenon joints secured by wooden pegs. The planks were hand-planed, resulting in a uniquely textured surface without modern machine marks.

Authentic period benches feature hand-cut joinery, irregular tool marks, and natural wear around the feet and edges. The timber naturally displays a deep, rich patina accumulated over centuries of use and wax polishing.

A long trestle bench pairs seamlessly with modern contemporary dining tables or functions as a grounding statement piece in an expansive hallway. Its clean, linear silhouette creates visual warmth against neutral walls.

Maintain the timber by dusting with a soft dry cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the bench away from direct heat sources and extreme damp to protect the historic joinery from splitting.
