A Bonheur du Jour is a French style of ladys writing desk introduced in Paris during the mid-eighteenth century. Characterised by a flat writing surface backed by a raised cabinet or shelf unit with small drawers and doors, it was traditionally used for writing personal letters and storing vanity items.

These desks traditionally feature fine cabinetmaking techniques including geometric parquetry and intricate marquetry veneers applied over oak or pine carcases.
