Antique English Brass Mounted Coromandel Playing " Cards " Box C.1860

Description

A very handsome Victorian playing cards box, beautiful quality made from exotic Coromandel and mounted with polished brass mounts, decorated with engraving. The central large brass mount on the lid is also engraved " Cards " crowing the slightly domed lid.

The interior is beautifully lined in black leather and a blue silk lining the lid. The box also contains some packs of cards (one still in it's paper wrapper), counters, dice, score cards and a Bridge booklet. The interior of the lid retains the original gold printed retailer's label, for Leuchars & Son, 38, Piccadilly, London (in one of London's most fashionable & exclusive shopping districts).

Dating to around 1860, the box remains in superb condition and measuring 8" X 5".
