Antique Victorian Solid Silver Hip Flask with Bayonet Cap - Edward Smith 1843

19th century
Description

We are delighted to offer this finely made solid silver hip flask made by Edward Smith of Birmingham in 1843.

This flask presents an array of highly desirable features from both a practical and collecting perspective such as it being made in the early Victorian era and featuring a 'bayonet' cap.

Unlike many later counterpart flasks which may be made partially from glass, this one is made entirely out of solid silver and has a very sturdy feel in hand. The interior of the flask is silver gilt which lines the silver with a protective layer of gold.

As is the case with Edward Smith's other wares, this hip flask is of high quality a beautiful curvature and an ergonomic design that can be further appreciated when held in hand.

A hand-engraved lion crest is present in the centre of the flask and a full set of crisp English hallmarks are present on the base.

It remains in good condition with no leaks and thus liquids can be held within.

A delightful piece of fine yet practical silverware that can be fully enjoyed even today in the modern era - an ideal piece to gift someone special whether be it for a collection, display or practical usage.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
