Mottu of Paris Striking Carriage Clock

19th century
Description

A quality early example of a French carriage clock by Mottu of Paris. A rarer silvered engraved dial with fine 'moon' blued steel hands with lower alarm dial. A well cast 'one piece' case with a large glass top aperture. An 8-day duration mechanism with 1/2 hour and hour bell striking. Winding shutters to the rear door and signed to the mechanism backplate 'Mottu a Paris' with a subsidiary alarm set hand. A later lever escapement. Circa 1840.

JMD Mottu worked at Rue Montmorency, Paris in 1840 and Daniel Mottu at Rue Grenelle in 1830.
