19th century
Description

Solid Silver Commemorative Carriage Clock by Charles Frodsham and Co.

This lovely carriage clock has a solid silver case with a lovely shaped carry handle to the top in the form of a crown with a bevelled glass panel beneath it. The piece then has a ribbed section and a moulding to the top. Each corner then has lovely, intricate reeded columns to hold the four bevelled glass panels in place. There is then a further moulding and ribbed section to the bottom as well as four thin feet to each corner. The bottom of the case is then hallmarked with a lion to show that it is solid English silver, a lions head to show that it was made/assayed in London, the makers mark “TC”, and the date letter “G” to show that it was made in 1981. The base is also marked “SERIAL NO. 146/1000”.

The dial then has a lovely gilt and patterned outside with silver price of Wales feathers to the bottom. The actual dial is then round and set out in black Roman numerals with a thin ring of dashes to the outside marking the minutes. The dial is then signed bu the maker “Charles Frodsham” to the centre. Finally the dial is finished by two lovely shaped hands.

The movement is then both wound and adjusted from the back. It is ticking away as it should and has its winding key.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
