Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Victorian era, formal dining etiquette required specialized eating utensils for each course, including dedicated sets for fruit and cheese. These sets were produced with decorative silver-plated blades and natural handles, designed to prevent acidic fruit juices from reacting with plain steel.

These sets typically feature electroplated nickel silver (EPNS) or solid sterling silver blades paired with mother-of-pearl, bone, or ivory handles. Canteens were constructed from hardwoods such as oak or mahogany and lined with silk velvet or plush fabric to protect the utensils.

Authentic pieces usually feature makers marks or EPNS stamps near the bolster of the blade. The mother-of-pearl handles should display natural iridescence and subtle surface variations rather than the uniform texture of modern synthetic substitutes.

An open wooden canteen displaying vibrant velvet lining makes an intriguing decorative vignette when styled on a sideboard, dresser, or buffet table. The individual knives and forks can also be integrated into contemporary tablescapes for contrast during dinner parties.

Clean pieces individually by hand using warm water and mild dish soap, ensuring the handles are never submerged. Avoid dishwashers and harsh chemical polish on the natural mother-of-pearl to prevent dulling or loosening of the handle joints.
