Stunning Antique Figural Table Vesta - Child Feeding a Bird C.1860

Description

An absolutely charming table Vesta that I haven't come across before, English in origin and dating to the Victorian era, around 1860.

The box is beautifully cast with the most adorable child laying on a Wheatsheaf and clutching some bird-feed to feed the bird sitting to the front.

The bottom of the sheaf is hinged and opens to reveal the chamber where the matches would be stored, there is catch which snaps shut. The underside has a textured panel which is where the (non-safety) matches would be struck.

Excellent condition, measuring 4 7/8" in length x 1 7/8" wide x 2 1/2" tall.
