Description

Oak Monks Bench - Bowman Bros Camden - Excellent

A fine example of functional design this small monks bench bears the rightly famous ivorine maker's mark of Bowman Brothers, Camden, London.

Bowman's furniture shop in Camden Town during 1935 advertised itself as: 'the first firm to sell good modern designs & still the best.' The range of furniture was impressive and their catalogue, illustrated by artist Edward Bawden, suggested ways of laying out the furniture at home.

This Oak Monks Bench, circa 1935, is in excellent order. It converts from table to armchair in seconds and is useful in either. The textile on the seat area is a soft velour and is in fine condition.

Overall a fun and versatile piece of furniture that will suit a variety of settings.
