Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A tilt-top table, also known as a snap-top table, features a hinged tabletop mounted on a central pedestal that can be flipped vertically when not in use to save space. Popular during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, these functional pieces were traditionally used for serving tea or as occasional side tables.

These tables were predominantly crafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut. Construction featured a hand-turned central column, tripod cabriole legs, and a brass catch mechanism underneath the top.

Authentic period pieces display hand-cut joinery beneath the top, original iron or brass tilt latches, and natural wear along the turned pedestal base. The underside of the top often reveals hand-planed timber and historical oxidisation around structural fastenings.

A tilt-top table can function as an occasional side table beside an armchair or be placed in an empty alcove with the top flipped upright to display its timber grain. Its versatile footprint allows it to serve as a functional accent piece in living rooms, hallways, or reading nooks.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent drying or fading of the original finish. Clean the surface regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year.
