Description

A rare silver Chatelaine receptacle with links to Archery.

Chatelaines were made for various sporting activities.

The item is decorated with a “crocodile” finish is marked on the main section and the lid. Made to look like a quiver?

On the outside engraving reads “Backwell Archers” 1910. Backwell is a village outside of Bristol and archery was popular in the West Country with an annual event being held at Dunster Castle.

Maker Lawrence Emanuel whose mark appears on chatelaines, Birmingham 1909.

Not sure what it was used for, but it did have grease inside which was cleaned out, (not by me). The inside is gilded and this can still be seen.
