Description

Antique English silver pocket watch, 1888.

The watch has an English stem-winding movement, probably from one of the Coventry makers, which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the name A Everington, Nottingham, this would have been the original retailer of the watch.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover which is engraved with the name of a previous owner, J H Shipstone.

The watch measures 51mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the two case backs for London 1888, with a maker’s mark for the London case maker and silversmith James Oliver. The case is in good condition, light surface marks and a hint of gentle unevenness to the back but nothing serious.

The glass lens is in lovely condition.

The dial is in good condition with pin-set blued steel hands (one is a period replacement), sunken subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
