Gill Coe Antiques & Interiors has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
He died eight months before the birth of his only child who subsequently became, Lady Thorold. She died in 1807. An old label attached to the reverse also says that the painting was given to Charles Thorold, Lady Thorold's son-in-law. The second portrait has a label saying that this is a portrait of Mrs Beardsley, wife of George Beardsley, giving details of her becoming a widow aged 19 and then marrying Millington Hayford of Millington Hall. The portraits measures 26.5cm x 21.5cm without the frames. The frames do need some attention, however the paintings themselves are in good condition. Provenance: Private Collection.
