A very good 19th century Scottish Luggie.
 
A Luggie is a drinking vessel made in Scotland. It consists of alternating wooden staves bound by willow. In between each stave made by hand using a knife there is feather banding to ensure the vessel is water tight. One of the staves extends to form a handle.
 
Interestingly this example has two layered base, in between the layers there are some dry peas which when shaken would get the attention of the bar tender.
 
It measures 11.5cm w x 8cm h excluding the handle
