A Stunning Cut Glass Bonboniere

A stunning cut glass bonboniere or sweetmeat jar, from the end of the Victorian era. This superb piece has a goblet shaped body with a turned over rim and castellated border. The foot is octagonal and there is a multi point star cut to the base. The body and lid are cut with thumbnails and the lid has a superb cut steeple, blown with a teardrop - echoed in the cut stem. The lid has the etched figure of a man in robes with a book and staff.

Bonboniere's were high quality items for the serving table, containing bonbons or sweetmeats, but would serve well for other uses. An outstanding example, both practical and decorative. Dimensions below.
