Art Deco Chrome & Glass Modernist Occasional Table, C1930's

1920 - 1940
For Sale by Art Deco World
Description

Superbly stylish Art Deco tubular table in chrome with a thick glass insert top. The glass has a mirrored edge and jet black center. Often the mirror part is foxed and blemished but this example seems to be in excellent condition as is the black center. No scratches one normally might expect to find. Likewise the chrome is almost blemish free all but for some odd and very small spots on the very base. Very stable table and the stretchers underneath the glass offer extra support for any weight.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco Modernist furniture from the 1930s is characterised by clean geometric shapes, functional design, and the use of industrial materials such as tubular chrome and glass. This movement embraced streamlined forms and reduced ornamentation in favour of sleek modern aesthetic principles.

Tables from this period frequently feature tubular steel or chrome frames paired with toughened, smoked, or back-painted glass tops. The joinery often relies on minimalist metal welds and hidden fasteners to maintain a seamless, lightweight structure.

Authentic 1930s pieces often exhibit heavy-gauge tubular metal, natural ageing or light pitting on the chrome finish, and original glass with subtle imperfections or rounded edge-grinding. Screws and fixings from the era are typically slotted rather than modern cross-head designs.

This style of table serves well as an accent piece next to a structured sofa, adding structural contrast and a reflective surface. Pair it with minimalist ceramics or modern lighting to highlight its clean geometric lines without cluttering the glass top.

Clean glass surfaces using a microfibre cloth and a non-abrasive glass cleaner. Chrome frames should be dusted regularly and polished with a specialised metal cleaner to remove light tarnish and prevent oxidisation, avoiding abrasive pads.
