A lovely and beautifully coloured scene - a still life with fruit presented on a tree stump, in a landscape!
The poetic scene was painted by woman artist Denise Margoni.
Trained at the School of Applied Arts, Denise carried out two parallel activities throughout her life: design and painting.
In the 1930s and 40s, she worked for the famed silk manufactories in Lyon, a city which has a long, lauded history of producing some of the most stunning silks in the world. Soon, her designs were noticed by great couturiers and fashion houses.
Her admiration for the paintings of Estève, Hayden and Beaudin made her style evolve towards abstraction. Her work was praised notably by Fernand Léger and Balthus, who found her painting “very sensitive and personal''.
Denise Margoni exhibitted in Paris, La Rochelle, Paimpol and St Cloud. In the 1970s she won first prizes at the Montrouge, St Cloud and Châlons en Champagne salons. She participated in several exhibitions of the Tamenaga gallery in Paris and in Japan, and was represented by the Kriegel gallery in Paris.
