Regency Period Bracket Clock by Finer & Nowland, High Holborn, London

19th century
Description

An iconic Regency period BRACKET CLOCK by the makers Finer and Nowland, of High Holborn, London.

The rosewood case has good brass spandrels around the dial; a pineapple finial to the top and 'fish scale' panels to each side. The movement is an 8-day twin fusee, striking hours (repeating at will by use of the pull cord) on a bell. It has a superb high-precision pendulum, with secure travel screw. A good painted dial with signature, diamond shaped 5-minute markers around the chapter ring; roman numerals and its original gilded hands. The case is supported on brass ball feet. Signed to both the dial and also engraved into the backplate. Comes complete with both keys.

Sold in full working order and guaranteed for 1 year.

Dated: c.1815-1825.

According to Loomes (p.266) Thomas Finer who traded on his own between 1788-1800 later became a partner in Finer & Nowland. The partnership of Finer & Nowland was known to work from High Holborn in London between 1805 and 1839.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
