Antique Waltham P S Bartlett half hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a 17-jewel stem-winding movement, P S Bartlett grade, which is working nicely. This is a good quality movement with Church 1892 patent regulator, Breguet hairspring for enhanced precision and nicely patterned plates. The movement is fully signed and the serial number 23,116,109 dates it back to 1919.

The Bartlett grade was named after Patten Sargeant Bartlett who was one of the early employees of the Boston Watch Company which went on to become the Waltham Watch Company. He subsequently left Waltham to work for the National Watch Company at Elgin Illinois but eventually returned to Waltham to work as a salesman before opening his own wholesale business.

The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is the gold filled Moon model from the Dennison Watch Case Company. The Dennison Watch Case Company made most of the cases for Waltham UK. The case has engine turned detail to both the front and back and it is all good condition with just a couple of slight indentations to the front, nothing too serious at all. The small central lens is surrounded by enamel filled Roman numerals.

The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.

Inside, there is an acrylic lens which is in good condition.

The signed dial is in good condition with original hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. The watch has the proper half hunter hour hand so that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
