In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It has an engraved cartouche and it weighs approximately 49g.
It is clearly hallmarked for Birmingham, 1899 although the makers mark has rubbed.
It is in good condition for its age. There are some faint surface marks and minor dinks but nothing detrimental. There looks like there may have been an old repair around the seam of the lid (see photo) but overall it displays well. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
