Description

An absolutely stunning antique Swedish Biedermeier Style secretaire chest in satin birch. This was recently imported from Sweden, it dates from around the 1850-1860 period.

It is of the utmost quality, with many fine features. The interior is one of the best we have seen, with sixteen internal drawers of various shapes. There is also a secret hidden compartment which can be found when the lower middle internal drawer is removed. A particularly nice and unusual feature are the intricately carved sleeping dogs, also on the lower middle internal drawer. Please enlarge the images to get a better look.

The three lower drawers have lots of additional storage space and all have beautiful contrasting escutcheons. The base has beautifully shaped bracket feet, the drop down panel front also has finely carved borders complimenting the shape.

We have had this re-polished, the satin birch has a gorgeous colour tone and wonderful grain patterns. The condition is excellent for its age, with just some minor wear and a beautiful, rich patina.
