Antique Elbow Chair, English, Carver Seat, After Sheraton, Georgian, Circa 1780

18th century
Description

This is an antique elbow chair. An English, mahogany carver seat with Sheraton taste, dating to the Georgian period, circa 1780.

Wonderfully distinctive elbow chair with a superb back rest

Displays a desirable aged patina and in very good order

Select stocks show fine grain interest and rich russet hues

Drop-in seat dressed with a professionally reupholstered covering in a tasteful shade of green

Fascinating block form ears boldly frame the frieze top rail

Dashing back splat with a diamond fretwork form, arcaded mounts and circular motif

Elegant arms cascade gently from the top rail, resting upon slender turned balusters

Raised upon gently tapered front legs with swept feet to rear and united by a H-stretcher

This is a superb antique elbow chair, with beautiful colour and quality craftsmanship. Unmarked as such, the Sheraton influence affords the chair an unabashed elegance. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
