Silver Vertex Half Hunter Pocket Watch

Silver Vertex half hunter pocket watch.

The watch has a 17-jewel stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is stamped VW for Vertex Watch Company. It is all protected by an inner hinged cover.

The watch measures 50mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside all three covers for Birmingham 1936 with a case maker’s mark for Aaron Dennison. Dennisons was a Birmingham based case manufacturer, and supplier to various watch makers.

The case is in lovely condition. There is a later inscription to the back of the watch which commemorates a 50th anniversary, ‘1897 SP AAT 1947’.

The front cover has a central lens surrounded by enamel filled Roman numerals. The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover.

Inside, there is a glass lens which is in good condition.

The dial is signed with the name of the original retailer, although difficult to read. The dial is in good condition, just a couple of short faint hairlines between 10 and 11. The hour hand appears to be a period replacement as it is more copper coloured than the minute hand. It is a special half hunter hour hand which means that the time can be read when the front cover is closed.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
