Hingstons of Wilton has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
This Victorian teak military chest was made circa 1870

Once an Officer gained his commission he would go and purchase all the items he needed for his future campaigns.
It was made in 2 parts so that it could be put in its own travelling cases to send on its trips around the world.

Made of teak, a wood that is very good for this use, as it is resistant to seawater and being a hardwood, it was resistant to the knocks it was bound to receive as it was packed on sailing ships, steamers, wagons, or even Elephants as it was taken to the Officers postings around the East, normally India and the Northwest Passage.

It is fitted a pair of half width drawers with a full-length drawer under these, the bottom section is fitted with 2 full width drawers, the top one with the classic deep drawer for uniforms and the military hats, and with the original flush inset handles and brass corners.

Imagine the stories this could tell of the escapades it had been through, and how it was carted around the world as the Officer was posted to different conflicts of the period.
Your friends and family will have their imaginations sparked by the stories this could tell.
