Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During this period, sculptors in centres such as Florence and Volterra specialised in detailed figural subjects carved from soft alabaster. These works often feature classical drapery, realistic human forms, and clever use of contrasting stone strata to distinguish skin from clothing or landscape bases.

Craftsmen selected blocks of alabaster with natural colour variations, such as opaque white or cream sections alongside translucent grey or brown veining. Hand tools and rasps were used to shape the soft sulphate mineral before polishing the surface to create varying textures between smooth skin and rough stone.

Authentic pieces typically show crisp hand-carved details, incised artist signatures around the base or lower reverse, and natural mineral veining running continuously through the stone. They also possess a distinctive translucency when exposed to light.

Place the sculpture on a dark timber console table, sideboard, or mantelpiece to create visual contrast against neutral walls. Directional ambient lighting positioned near the piece highlights the translucency and fine carved details of the stone.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or natural hair brush, avoiding water or chemical solvents which can dissolve or discolour alabaster. Keep the sculpture away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent stone degradation.
