In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A suiban is a traditional Japanese shallow, open-topped basin usually made of bronze or ceramic. Historically designed without drainage holes, it is used to hold water for ikebana floral arrangements, bonsai displays, or viewing stones known as suiseki.

During the Edo period, Japanese metalworkers utilized lost-wax casting (cire perdue) or sand casting techniques to form bronze vessels. The pieces were hand-finished with chased geometric or nature-inspired motifs, followed by heat-applied patination using organic solutions to achieve rich brown and reddish tones.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces exhibit hand-chased decorative borders, such as meander or key fret motifs, along with subtle irregularities from sand or lost-wax casting. They typically display natural surface wear, internal mineral deposits or oxidisation from water usage, and substantial weight consistent with solid cast bronze.

An antique bronze suiban works well as a minimalist centerpiece on a dining table, sideboard, or low console table. It can be used traditionally for low-profile botanical arrangements, filled with dry decorative elements, or left empty as a sculptural metalwork accent.

Dust the metal regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners that can damage the original patina. If using the vessel with water for floral displays, employ a glass or plastic liner to prevent corrosion and long-term mineral buildup inside the cast bronze.
