John Howkins Antiques has dated this piece to the 18th Century.
To either side are banks of 10 marquetry inlaid drawers with applied ebony mouldings and turned pulls. Four of the drawer fronts form two small cupboards which retain their original iron locks (with keys). The sides have walnut cross banding with outline inlay and original ornate brass carrying handles, the cabinet is raised on a breakfront moulded frieze with 6 brass and ebony ball and claw feet and has walnut drawer linings. The cabinet stands on a later breakfronted walnut base with carved lion heads and turned, fluted and spiral twist columns connected by arched and carved stretchers with turned pillars. The sledge stepped feet with lion’s paw feet. Please note the figure of St Francis is not original to the cabinet but came with it.
