A Mcmillan of Glasgow Longcase Clock

19th century
Description

A McMillan of Glasgow, circa 1840

Height: 6ft 10 Depth: 9” Width: 19”

Fine quality mahogany 8 day longcase clock by Andrew McMillan of Glasgow, circa 1840.

Rare column style case with reeded trunk. Drumhead hood surmounted by carved pediment. Canted panelled base with plinth and bun feet.

The circular painted enamel Roman dial with subsidiary seconds and date dials.

Fine quality 8 day movement, striking the hours on a single bell.

Blued steel hands.

Andrew McMillan apprenticed to Francis Reid, clock and watchmaker in Glasgow and freeman of the Incorporation of Hammerman on 25th August 1837. A watchmaker and jeweller at 5 Argyle Arcade in 1837 - 1855, then at Nos 6 & 7 in 1860 - 1865.

A rare and unusual Scottish clock, in superb original condition.

Movement restored to a very high standard with 2 years mechanical guarantee.
