A Most Impressive 19th Century Pair of English Carved Gilt Wood Classical Lions

This wonderful and most appealing pair of highly decorative large scale English classical lions date to circa 1860. They are constructed from blocked pine glued together to form the large sections needed to carve these fine figures. They have been beautifully hand carved showing the most appealing facial expressions with superb detailing throughout especially their muscular bodies, hairy manes and clawed paws. The lions are a true pair left and right handed. They retain their original gesso and gilt finish which over time and with the benefit of regular polishing have built up a unique patination with keeping with their age. In good original condition, circa 1860
