An elegant Victorian silver plate three piece tea service c1880 comprising a teapot, sugar bowl and milk or cream jug. All three items bear clear stamped marks - EP indicating silver plate and for the maker James DIXON & Sons, a renowned silversmith of the time. The bases also bear a registration number and other numbers for the pattern. The tea service is exceptional due to its elaborate design and decoration. The sides and tea pot lid are fluted, above which is an all round design of fringes, scrolls, and frills. Each item bears a shield, surrounded by a repeated pattern of scrolls. The shields were intended for initials or a crest but on these items the shields are plain. The handle and fluted knop are made of ebonised hardwood. The condition is excellent, no dents or damage. The tea service was probably intended for a lady’s use but in modern times would be a delightful way to serve a vintage tea party!
