Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George III furniture, originating from the mid-18th to early 19th century, is characterised by classical symmetry, restraint, and the widespread use of high-quality imported mahogany. Pieces often incorporate clean lines, functional drawer layouts, and refined feet designs such as bracket or ogee feet.

Dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany was the primary timber for exterior surfaces and veneers, selected for its stability and rich grain pattern. Secondary timbers such as pine or oak were used internally for drawer linings and carcass backings, paired with cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic period chests display hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed secondary wood, and uneven oxidation on drawer bottoms. Original brass hardware will leave specific footprint marks, and drawers typically feature hand-carved runners and graduated proportions.

Mahogany chests add warmth and visual structure when placed against cool neutral walls or contemporary wallpaper. Balance the dark timber by styling the top surface with modern ceramics, minimalist lamps, or abstract artwork.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent drying, shrinkage, or uneven fading of the finish.
