Description

A mid 19thC landscape oil on canvas painting of the village of Kelsey, Suffolk signed by artist R HAYES. The painting depicts a rural scene with a herd of sheep being driven through the village, with shepherd, figures, village houses and trees with steep hedged fields in the background. The colours, condition and detail are excellent. The painting is framed behind glass in its original water gilded frame with similar gilded slip. The reverse of the canvas bears a Windsor & Newton stamp and is inscribed with the title Kersey, Suffolk. The dates of the artist’s, R HAYES, lifetime are not available but the painting can be dated by its style, subject, canvas and frame to c1860-1880, the mid Victorian era. In excellent condition.

Note due to the glazing, there are reflections in the photos of my ceiling and room!
