Gents silver Bernex wrist watch, 1930.

The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel hand-winding movement which is working nicely.

The watch measures 32mm diameter excluding the winding crown and fixed lugs. The case is silver and there are hallmarks inside the hinged case back for London (import mark), 1930 with a sponsor’s mark for George Stockwell. There is also the Bernex mark.

From 1 June 1907, Stockwells acted as assay agents, facilitating the import into Britain of foreign gold and silver items which had to be assayed and hallmarked in a UK assay office before being released for retail.

The front of the case is in good condition and the stepped bezel is a handsome feature. The hinged case back has some fairly gentle unevenness and the name ‘Miriam’… the watch is a gent’s piece so Miriam must have been someone special.

The lens is in lovely condition.

The dial is in its original textured finish with Breguet style hands, a subsidiary seconds dial and outer minute markers. There is some age related darkening but still easy to read the time.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.
