Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Writing slopes were portable writing desks designed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to allow correspondents to carry stationery, ink, pens, and a sloped writing surface while travelling.

Victorian writing slopes were predominantly constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, and were frequently fitted with protective brass corners, brass strapping, and interior velvet or leather writing surfaces.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints, flush brass fittings screwed into place rather than glued, original steel or brass locks, and natural wear or oxidisation consistent with age.

An antique writing slope can be placed closed on a sideboard, coffee table, or desk as a decorative box, or displayed open on a library table to highlight the interior compartments and writing surface.

Dust the exterior regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly to the wood, ensuring brass hardware is kept clean without harsh chemicals that might strip the original patina.
