It is probably one that was used by a sea captain, this is due to the features explained in the description below.
Having the feature of a secrétaire desk drawer. The drawer is fitted with a leather inset writing, this is at the centre with a pair of smaller drawers to each side. The handles on the small drawers are interesting as they have scoops to the backplate to allow ease to lift the handle.

This Victorian teak secretaire military chest brass is fitted shaped flush brass handles and strap corners. It was made in 2 parts for ease of movement when it was to be transported by the Naval captain as he navigated his way around the British Empire.
The top has ebonised plugs around the edge, this is where a folding gallery would fit around the edge of the top to stop items sliding off the top in stormy weather (this would fold and be stored inside the chest when not in use, in time this is now missing as it became redundant for use on land). The interior has the original sliding stay, this was to stop the interior drawers from sliding around, during a storm.
