Antique Oak Breakfront Bookcase

1900 - 1920
Description

Edwardian oak breakfront bookcase

This Edwardian oak breakfront bookcase was made circa 1900.

It was made in the workshops of one of the prestige makers of the day. Maples would be my inclination, although it isn’t stamped Maples it is very much in their style but also the quality of workmanship points to them.

The locks are by Hobbs & co London, who supplied the very best, especially as they were of the luxury price bracket.

The bookcase is a four-door breakfront, glazed doors to the top and panel doors in the base. The glazed doors open to allow access to the adjustable shelves, below this on the base are 3 drawers, all with fine applied moulding around the edge. Consisting of a small drawer to each end section and a full width drawer to the centre.

All the drawers and doors have the wonderful finely turned knob handles.

This impressive breakfront bookcase comes into multiple pieces to allow easy movement to and around your home.

The double door section in the middle of the top and bottom sections are deeper, this allows larger volumes to be stored in the top and any other options you need to store in the base.

The interior of the top and base are in a golden oak finish, that shows up the quality of the timber used even in the inside.

This Edwardian bookcase would have been made for an important and very wealthy client when it was first made, only a small percentage of people would have been able to afford this in the day.

Imagine how wonderful this will look in your library or office, as well as the incredible amount of storage space it will give you.

124cms widest point cornice 88ins

230cms high 90 1/4ins

All dimensions are approximate, whilst we take as much care as possible, we can be marginally out.
