Biography:
Born in 1861 in Liverpool, Ernest Bucknall was educated at Dulwich College. He studied art at Lambeth and at South Kensington Academies where in 1876, he won the Queen''s Prize for Perspective.
He specialized in landscape painting in watercolour and exhibited at the Royal Academy of London*, the Royal Society of British Artists* and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours.
In 1919 he came to live in Gloucester Road, Bristol and was elected an Artist Member of the Savages at the age of 58. In 1924 he contributed to ''Grouse'' an article on the charms of English rural architecture. He died in June 1935.
The fabulous image portrays a small rural countryside farm lane with a herd of cattle slowly making their way to an adjourning field.
Bucknall portrayed the scene and captured the impressionistic mood with magnificent attention to detail.
