Grapes on a Chequered Tablecloth, 1930, a Wine and Food Lover's Still Life, Art Deco Period French Oil on Canvas

Description

A wonderful work for any lover of grapes, wine and French joie de vivre! Colourful and vibrant, the oil on canvas presented here dates from 1930, and is a work by Albert Marie Vauquelin, a French artist who exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries from 1928. Vauquelin was a Parisian artist, but a keen traveller, who notably spent time in Japan. Two works by the artist - a landscape of Provence, and another of Japan - are in the Collection of the National Museum of Modern Art/Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris.

Our painting is signed and dated (19)30 at the upper left, and measures 33 x 46 cm. On the verso, the canvas bears an exhibition number "21" and the title "Raisins" (grapes). The overall framed size 41 x 54 cm.
