Deva Antiques has dated this piece to the Georgian era.
A curious piece as the pine sides would indicate a country made piece yet it has very high quality locks stamped with a makers mark, the fall lock is unusual as it has a brass cover plate over a steel lock, very fine oak drawer linings and extensive faux walnut graining. The graining is even inside the well and divisions to the fitted interior. Presumably the sides were also grained but this has now worn and faded away. The interior is fitted with 13 secret compartments and the backboards are oak top and bottom.
